Sailing lessons are held at the Beacon Marina in Caesarea on Lake Scugog. Come join our Certified instructors and experience our beautiful facility and comfortable 22' keel boats, great for all age groups.

Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with stunning sunsets and a panoramic view as we enjoy as much time on the water as we can squeeze in.

Learn the basics or heighten your skills. We cover basic boating safety and handling, basic navigational skills, and sailing theory. Demonstration of tacking, gybing, running, heaving to and all other standard sailing maneuvers are taught step by step.

Lifejackets are provided, but the participant may bring their own if desired. Other classroom activities include knot tying, anchor types and anchoring techniques. We'll also cover vessel types and designations and an introduction to some of the latest boat types and designs that are bringing sailing to a whole new level throughout the world today. In case of a stretch of unusual bad weather makeup lessons will be provided.

Start Keelboat Sailing - 2 days

Course Description: This is one of the entry levels in the series of Sail Canada courses on sailing keelboats and on Cruising. This course is the recommended starting point for individuals with minimal practical on water experience. This entry level course builds basic sailing skills with a focus on operation of the vessel as crew. Candidates completing this course will be able to competently contribute as crew to the operation of a keelboat in moderate daytime conditions. This standard is recommended for those with little boating or sailing experience that want to experience sailing on a keelboat and begin to build basic sailing skills in a relaxed environment and at a comfortable pace.

Objective: To be able to sail safely as crew of a sloop rigged keelboat 6 to 12 meters with an outboard or inboard motor in 5 - 20 knots (not gusting over 25 knots) of wind by day. This standard may be offered in a one weekend format or in evening sessions. It is envisioned that the learning objectives can be accomplished in 12-15 hours.

Sail Canada Basic Cruising Lessons

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to skipper a 6-8m sailing vessel safely under power or sail in moderate weather conditions. Also includes Safety & Safety Regulations, Anchoring, Docking, Mooring, Charts & Tide Tables, Man Overboard Procedure etc. Upon completion of exam you will receive a logbook complete with instructors signature and a seal for your Basic Cruising Course which will be sent by Sailing Canada to be affixed to your logbook. All course materials will be supplied.

** Please Note**: You are required to have a P.C.O.C. (Pleasure Craft Operator's Card). If you do not already have one, the training exam will be an additional $75.00 prior to the course. Individual dates will be made available as required.
